In December 2013, MojaNation Exchange was appointed creative agency on the UJ Alumni portfolio. After a few months of strategic work, we conceptualised a game-plan for the launch of a new Alumni campaign, kickstarted with a series of “Exceptional Talks by Extraordinary People” to profile some of UJ’s illustrious alumni. As they near their ten-year anniversary, the university aims to reach out to their alumni and draw them back onto the campus to create a feeling of nostalgia while renewing and strengthening their connection with their alma mater.
Hundreds of people attended the first of our “Exceptional Talks by Extraordinary People” on Alumni Day, the 29th of May 2014, enjoying a programme headlined by keynote speaker Adv. Thuli Madonsela, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. The Public Protector spoke on the highly topical subject of the importance of good governance in the public sector. Other high-profile speakers shared their insights on the day’s theme of entrepreneurship and good governance. The UJ Generations of Accomplishment video, conceptualised by the MojaNation team and produced by the talented Stephan Abbot of Stealth Donkey, was also launched by the UJ Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ihron Rensburg on the day.
Over the course of the day, a student activation took place on campus, to get sign-ups for UJ’s new alumni program. The activation was simple – personalised UJ notebooks (emblazoned with UJ’s core values) for all who joined! Pages of the notebook were lined with inspirational quotes from alumni, a daily reminder to the students to always remain positive, that the Art of Accomplishment is within everyone’s reach. The funky notebooks were a hit, with the MojaNation team and their UJ student helpers busy all day – even the UJ staff wanted in on the action. We signed up 1000 post-graduate students in one day, a huge success for the alumni team!
